At a Yanni concert you probably know Charlie best for
the inhibited drum solos which bring audiences to their feet,
but there is far more behind this master of the drum sticks
that meets the ear. He’s an accomplished teacher and
an ongoing student of drumming history, technique, styles
and expression. And, thanks to more than a 20-year career,
which has exposed him to all styles of music and some of history’s
greatest drummers, he possesses insights on the essential
role of drums in music.
2004 ETHNICITY
TOUR
“There
is no such thing as a great band with a mediocre drummer”
says Charlie, “The first thing that makes a good drummer
is time. It’s great to be able to do all the fast solos
and all that kind of stuff, but if you don’t have time,
forget it, then you don’t play drums. Probably another
thing that makes a good drummer is the ability to listen to
what the other instruments are doing and not step on their toes,
instead, complement them.
Charlie's Students
Hall of Fame
"Charlie
is one of the best teachers I've ever had. Besides that,
Charlie is more than a teacher, he is also a good friend."
